On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the Supreme Court of Louisiana publicly reprimanded attorney Dennis E. Kelly and placed him on probation for one year.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Dennis E. Kelly,” with case no. 2024-B-00242.
The Court accepted a joint petition for consent discipline filed by Kelly and the Office of Disciplinary Counsel regarding Kelly’s alleged mishandling of funds in his client trust account. As part of the consent agreement, Kelly will be on probation for one year subject to compliance.
The disciplinary proceeding stemmed from an investigation initiated by the ODC into Kelly’s handling of his client trust account. Before formal charges were filed, Kelly and the ODC submitted a joint petition to the Supreme Court asking for the consent discipline.
In its per curiam ruling, the Court agreed to the petition’s recommended sanctions. Kelly will have to work with the ODC to develop a formal probation plan with which he must comply during his one-year probationary period. As part of the order, Kelly is also responsible for all costs associated with the disciplinary case.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Kelly is an attorney in New Orleans, Louisiana. He acquired his law license in Louisiana in 1979.
