On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department granted Tai Chang Terry’s motion for reinstatement as a retired attorney and counselor-at-law in the State of New York.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Tai Chang Terry,” with case no. 2025-02465.

The court’s order on November 17, 2022, had suspended Terry from practicing law in New York due to his failure to meet the requirements of Judiciary Law Section 468-a, which governs attorney registration and compliance.

The reinstatement follows Terry’s motion to the court requesting restoration to the status of a retired attorney. According to court documents, Terry addressed the compliance issue with Judiciary Law Section 468-a on or about October 21, 2024, after the suspension took effect.

The court, presided over by Justice Peter H. Moulton, alongside Justices Barbara R. Kapnick, Saliann Scarpulla, Julio Rodriguez III, and Llinét M. Rosado, reviewed the motion and related documents. After due deliberation, the court determined that Terry had satisfied the necessary conditions for reinstatement.

The order officially restores Terry’s status as a retired attorney, effective May 29, 2025.

According to Martindale.com, Terry was admitted to the practice of law in New York in 1982.
