On Friday, December 13, 2024, the Presiding Disciplinary Judge of the Supreme Court of Arizona issued an order of admonition to attorney Alexis Anastasia Campbell. This decision comes after Campbell was reprimanded by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for professional misconduct on October 10, 2024.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Alexis Anastasia Campbell,” with case no. PDJ 2024-9107.
The disciplinary action was prompted by Campbell’s failure to exercise reasonable diligence regarding client signatures on documents prepared by legal assistants. Specifically, she violated federal regulations by not ensuring that documents submitted to the USPTO’s trademark registration system were properly signed. The judge noted that Campbell’s conduct was deemed negligent rather than intentional.
Following the USPTO’s reprimand, the Presiding Disciplinary Judge requested input from the parties involved regarding the appropriateness of imposing similar disciplinary measures in Arizona. On December 11, 2024, a joint response was filed, indicating that both parties agreed a lesser disciplinary action was warranted under the circumstances. They proposed an admonition instead of a reprimand, citing mitigating factors such as Campbell’s lack of a selfish motive, her efforts to rectify the situation, and her previously unblemished disciplinary record.
Despite one identified aggravating factor—a pattern of misconduct—the mitigating factors were considered to outweigh this concern. The judge acknowledged that no actual harm had resulted to clients, as their intellectual property rights were not compromised.
In addition to the admonition, Campbell has been ordered to pay $1,200 in costs to the State Bar, which is due within 30 days of the ruling.
The Disposition states:
“IT IS ORDERED that ALEXIS ANASTASIA CAMPBELL, Bar No. 031487, is admonished for the conduct outlined in the parties’ joint response and the USPTO’s decision and order dated October 10, 2024.”
According to avvo.com, Ms. Campbell is a business attorney. She acquired her law license in Arizona in 2014.
