On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, a Maine Grievance Commission panel found probable cause that Attorney Roger M. Champagne had committed professional misconduct warranting suspension or disbarment.
The case is entitled “Board of Overseers of the Bar v. Roger M. Champagne, Esq.,” with case no. GCF#23-176 & 23-184.
Before the hearing, Attorney Champagne and Bar Counsel had reached an agreement that based on the allegations in the disciplinary petitions, there was probable cause for suspension under Maine’s bar rules. The parties agreed the matter should proceed by way of an information filing before a single justice.
Representing the Board of Overseers of the Bar in the hearing was Bar Counsel Julia A. Sheridan. Attorney Champagne was represented by Stephen J. Schwartz.
After considering the stipulation between the parties, the grievance panel, composed of Chair Megan Sanders, Sarah LeClaire, and public member Richard P. Dana, found probable cause for Attorney Champagne’s suspension or disbarment from legal practice in Maine. The panel instructed Bar counsel to initiate an attorney disciplinary action by submitting an Information to the court.
