On Thursday, January 8, 2026, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted the request of attorney Kevin L. Burns to resign from the New York bar for nondisciplinary reasons.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kevin L. Burns,” with case no. PM-06-26.
The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department (AGC) did not oppose Burns’ application, according to a court document. Burns’ affidavit, sworn to on November 21, 2025, was filed with the court on November 28, 2025. The Deputy Chief Attorney for the AGC responded via correspondence on December 23, 2025.
The court determined that Burns met the eligibility requirements for a nondisciplinary resignation.
As a result of the court’s order, Kevin L. Burns’ name will be removed from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in New York State, effective immediately. This status will remain until further order from the court. Burns is also prohibited from practicing law in any capacity within New York, whether as a principal, agent, clerk, or employee.
The order specifically forbids Burns from appearing as an attorney or counselor-at-law before any court, judge, justice, board, commission, or other public authority in New York. He is also barred from providing legal opinions, advice, or holding himself out as an attorney in the state.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that Kevin L. Burns’ application for permission to resign is granted and his nondisciplinary resignation is accepted; and it is further ORDERED that Kevin L. Burns’ name is hereby stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law of the State of New York, effective immediately, and until further order of this Court.”
According to the filing, Mr. Burns acquired his law license in New York in 2003.
