On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the Supreme Court of Washington disbarred attorney James Mills from practicing law in the state.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of James Mills,” with case no. 202202-2.
According to the court order, Mills had resigned from practicing law in Oregon in lieu of discipline on June 3, 2024. The Oregon Supreme Court accepted the resignation on June 6, 2024. As a result, the Washington Supreme Court initiated reciprocal discipline proceedings as outlined in ELC 9.2(c).
Mills was allowed to argue why identical discipline would be unwarranted in Washington but did not file a response.
After reviewing the case file, the court determined unanimously to disbar Mills without objection. His disbarment took effect seven days from the September 25, 2024 order date, making his license to practice law in Washington invalid due to misconduct resulting in his resignation from the Oregon State Bar.
